A large and fabulous 16th century Spanish Corpus Christi , his head downcast with painted facial features and wounds in original polychrome . He has a Romanesque torso with stylised rib cage, subtle and highly artistic musculature and veins throughout his limbs and a simple perizoneum.
Details
The simplistic perizoneum , elongated neck and facial features of the crucified Christ fix him firmly as a Spanish figure but could, quite possibly, be Spanish colonial of the same era. The Romanesque style to the rib cage and sternum show how the sculptors would still combine elements of earlier figures in to their more naturalistic carving. Both arms were made separately and are detachable with simple tenon joints.

Condition: Old restoration to the neck, losses.
