A sweet Spanish silver tembladera or wine tasting cup with squirrel mounted C-shaped handles and a flower embossed base.Details
Trembladeras or catavinos (wine tasters) became fashionable in Spain, and it's colonies, during the 17th century with all the pre-eminent silver centres producing these collectable pieces. This one, as with most , is unmarked but probably dates to the last quarter of the 18th century. The squirrel motifs to the handles could point to a Spanish colonial origin as they often decorated the handles of their silver, in Peru and elsewhere, with animals.
