Marc Chagall was a Belorussian born French painter and designer who created an oeuvre full of rich colours and dreamlike imagery – flying lovers, huge bouquets, melancholy clowns, fantastic animals, lonely figures, and vibrant hearts. All this combined to make him one of the most popular early modern artists of the 20th century.
“When Matisse dies, Chagall will be the only painter left who truly understands what colour really is.” - Pablo Picasso
