The Infanta or Infante of Spain is the title granted to the heir of reigning or past Spanish monarchs. This differs from most European monarchies as only the heir to the throne is given the title prince or princess. One of the privileges of the title is it allows them to be buried in the Pantheon of Infantes in The Escorial, Madrid. This lovely oil on copper dates to the mid 17th century and probably depicts one of the Infantas of the Habsburg dynasty.
