An unusual 19th century Indian double compartment intaglio carved ivory playing cards case, the intricately carved detail depicting scenes of elephants in procession below fluttering angels, another showing courtiers bringing honours to a king, amongst dogs and wildlife, and further tableaux of European style gentry in attitudes of courtly life, the carved out areas inlaid with a niello style substance resembling ebony, upper and lower lids sliding to reveal two wooden compartments.
