La Tomatina

La Tomatina is a Spanish festival held in Buñol , east of Valencia where people participate in a mass tomato fight . It is held on the last Wednesday in August and lasts around an hour between 11am and 1pm. Although banned temporarily in the Franco years it originates from 1945 when during a parade of ‘Giants’ a fight broke out at a nearby tomato stall. Typical Iberian madness or a sheer waste of  good fruit & veg ?!!
