“Every morning when I awake, ” said the artist of the melting watches and burning giraffes, “the greatest of joys is mine: that of being Salvador Dali…”. The Catalonian artist, born today 11th May 1904, was a genius and had he been born in the Renaissance his talent would have been considered normal. However born in the early part of the 20th century he represented a constant provocation in the art world but is now ranked as one of the Modernist greats alongside Picasso and Matisse. Fabulous examples of his etchings can be found in our Paintings and Prints section, ‘The King of Aragon’ being my particular favourite.
