A lovely exhibition poster for Marc Chagall (1887-1985) showing his lithograph ‘I am Odysseus’ from the Odyssey of Homer portfolio, in his classic pastel palette. This poster was for his L’oeuvre Grave at the Bibliotèque Nationale Nice, France in 1987. Published by Mourlot, Paris in 1987. Modern black frame.
Marc Chagall was a Belorussian born French painter and designer who created an oeuvre full of rich colours and dreamlike imagery – flying lovers, huge bouquets, melancholy clowns, fantastic animals, lonely figures and vibrant hearts. All this combined to make him one of the most popular early modern artists of the 20th century.
“When Matisse dies, Chagall will be the only painter left who truly understands what colour really is.” - Pablo Picasso
