Gold Qur'ans were generally commissioned by royalty or the nobility and are among the most beautiful of all the Arabic calligraphy. The use of Muhaqqaq script became popular during the Mamluk dynasty from around 1250-1500 with the term meaning 'consummate' or 'clear'. This folio’s intricate design and composition displays the sophistication and craftsmanship of Mamluk art of that period.
