A fabulous Italian marquetry table cabinet of ebonised wood inlaid with boxwood and ivory. The drop-down front opens to reveal a bank of drawers.
Marquetry is the art of applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns, designs or pictures. The term comes from the French marqueter, meaning to variegate. This fine piece would probably have been used for the storage of precious items of jewelry in a wealthy villa.
