A striking poster featuring a lithograph by Chagall for a mixed exhibition of artists at the Musée Jacquemart-André . Printed by Mourlot, Paris 1978. Modern black frame.Details
This lithographic poster depicts a beautiful self-portrait of Marc Chagall. His face is lit from below, and he's holding a paintbrush as he works on his seemingly upside-down canvas. A colourful goat-like figure stands beside him observing his work; this reoccurring figure is prominently represented in many of his pieces. Chagall was a Belorussian born French painter and designer who created an oeuvre full of rich colours and dreamlike imagery – flying lovers, huge bouquets, melancholy clowns, fantastic animals, lonely figures and vibrant hearts. All this combined to make him one of the most popular early modern artists of the 20th century.
“When Matisse dies, Chagall will be the only painter left who truly understands what colour really is.” - Pablo Picasso
