    Details

'Aurelia' is French poet and novelist Gérard de Nerval’s account of his descent into madness - a condition provoked in part by his unrequited passion for an actress named Jenny Colon. Dali was commissioned in the 1970's to produce 4 illustrations and stand alone prints to accompany a new publication of the work. Here, in one titled 'Memorabilia' he has introduced several of his classic surrealist motifs ; the melting clock (representing the fluidity of time and the dream world) , a young girl with a skipping rope (representing happy childhood memories) and a bat (representing death).
