A fabulous pair of antique Spanish or, possibly, Portuguese oils on velum. Saintly figures in carved giltwood frames inset with sectional mirrors and cornered with cherubs.
The oils would appear to depict a pair of Saints, one possibly being St Jerome who is often seen at a desk with a book and a lion at his feet. He is thought to have tamed a lion having healed its paw. It is unclear who the other Saint is but with an eagle feasibly at his side this could make him St John the Evangelist one of the original twelve disciples.
Condition: Please see photos as they are missing small areas of the frame and the gesso angels and several of the sectional mirrors are broken / distressed. However, everything is intact.
