A lovely Spanish walnut country table dating to the late 17th Century. It has a twin plank top above a gouge carved drawer decorated with square motifs and a central whorl and iron ring handle. The rectangular legs are connected by side stretchers and a wavy frieze rail to the front. This is a fabulous rustic/folk piece that would look good in any setting and is a very useful size.
Local craftsmen would use any available timber to create pieces of furniture to be placed in a farmhouse or cottage . Walnut is traditionally used and gives it the wonderful colour and patination. Despite the rustic nature of the table the maker would always try to incorporate some decoration to lift the piece and here it is done with the motifs to the drawer front.
Repair to bottom left of drawer ; possibly later elements.
