Spanish Colonial SpursReference HA0167 Price Sold Origin / Age Spanish Colonial ; c1780 - 1820 Dimensions 26cm l ; rowel diameter 9cm A highly decorative pair of Spanish Colonial 'rowel' spurs dating to the late 18th/early 19th century. Constructed of polished steel and copper alloy. Possibly from Chile or PeruDetailsIn his book 'Eperons de tous les temps tous les pays' Georges Nabera-Sartoulet describes this type of spur as a 'Louis XIV' due to the French King's influence on the design of South American spurs. These spurs have a fabulous patina with each heelband ending in a pierced loop with a line of cast decoration. The heelplate has a scalloped edge leading to a pierced neck of characteristic kidney shape; the rowels run freely and have 8 points each. They have strong artistic and sculptural qualities despite their utilitarian origins. Please note: Price does NOT include delivery costs.
