Miró was a Catalonian Surrealist artist born in Barcelona in 1893 who produced lithographs, sculptures and ceramics throughout his long career. His move to France and Montparnasse, Paris in 1920 brought him into the influential sphere of Van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso and Ernst and it was his symbolic, dream like compositions which would align him with the Surrealists. Miró had a significant influence on late 20th century art, especially the American abstract expressionist artists such as Pollock and Rothko who were inspired by his abstractions and colour field works. He is renowned for the quality and bold style of his lithographs.
