When Sorolla last exhibited in London in 1908 he was acclaimed as ‘The World’s Greatest Living Painter’ and on seeing his recent collection at the National Gallery one can fully understand why. He was born and trained in Valencia and was made famous for his sun-drenched depictions of life, leisure, landscapes and the traditions of Spain. He was a gifted painter who admired the great Spanish masters , Velazquez and Goya. At Hispanic Antiques I would urge people to try and visit this relatively unknown but talented impressionist painter – the Spanish Master of Light.
