A lovely quality Spanish walnut and fruitwood writing table circa 1680. The table retains its original features including the wrought iron bracing to the lyre shaped legs and the drawer linings . It has a fabulous rich colour and patination to the top and will sit perfectly in the period or modern home.
The table has a single plank walnut top above three carved panel fronted drawers divided by shaped front supports. It has lyre shaped trestle ended bases with wrought iron cross stretchers. This style of table often came from Catalonia although the lyre type of legs was actually copied in Andalusia also. They were sometimes called Campaign tables as it was thought that the legs could be folded under the top and carried more easily when marching to battles .
Condition: Lockplates removed from the drawers, inset repair to the top .
Provenance: Northern Spain.
