A rare original vintage travel poster for Spain using an engraving from the Tauromaquia by Goya , a series of prints on bullfighting created in 1815. This engraving was called Ligereza y atreviemento de Juanito Apinaniz en la de Madrid or ‘the lightness and recklessness of Juanito Apinani.’ Modern black frame.Details
Possibly the best-known image of Bullfighting by Goya, the protagonist is Juan Apiñaniz, a famous banderillero from Calahorra. In this image we see the bullfighter performing an acrobatic pole vault which captures the moment when Apiñaniz flies over the animal with terrified spectators in the background. The pole divides the scene in two, to the right the void and to the left, the characters, including the audience that is concentrated on the shadowed line. Conversely, the verticality of the pole contrasts with the horizontality of the bull and the bullfighter and with the shadow it casts on the ground.
